Who Gets What (1st-3rd grade version) is an activity in which students will need to make decisions about which people are entitled to a given resource. They must use value-based thinking to prioritize between different people and their different circumstances.

First, read the instructions and biographies aloud with the children. Have them follow along.

Second, split them into groups of 3 or 4. As a group, they must decide how to split the candy and write their reasons in the worksheet. Give them approximately 10 minutes to complete this step.

Third, bring the class back together. Allow groups to present who they believe should get candy. After a group presents, turn to the class and ask who disagreed with their reasoning. If kids disagree, allow them to provide a counter-argument. Enable the groups to have a discussion/debate with each other about who the right choices are. Encourage students to start with, "I agree because" or "I disagree because". This part should take roughly 15 minutes.

Activity should take 25-30 minutes in total.
