Students must figure discounts and compare final prices on four items from four different stores. This is a great practical application activity for individuals, partners, or small groups. This product is the Christmas version of my other product by the same name. The examples presented in the two products are the same.
This activity contains four pages (one for each item) for the students to write information as they figure discounts and how much they will need to pay at each store. The percent of the discounts vary with each item. The last page contains a chart for students to use in summarizing their information and deciding the best places to shop.
Minimal teacher prep: Just select four items that your students can relate to. Write one of these at the top of each page (pages 1-4). Then select four locations where students in your area would be likely to shop for these items. Write the names of these stores in the same order on each page. Determine a starting price for each item at the different stores. Let the students take it from there!
This activity works great as a jigsaw activity where small groups are assigned one item to complete together. Then they return to their home groups to share information and complete the chart and answer the questions.
