“Who Snatched the Cookies From the Cookie Jar?” is a great get to know you game! (See page 29 for the words)
Extend the lesson with:
Page 3-7 Fun math printables including problem solving with addition and subtraction, counting and adding.
Page 8-10 Math game board to use to help students practice their counting skills. Tape page 8-9 together and page 10 can be used as the spinner.
Page 11-16 Number sort. Choose which cards you would like your class to use. Cards include addition, subtraction, number dots, number words and ten frames. I use page 11 as a sorting mat in a center. Students do not glue but just sort the cards onto the mat. If you choose for them to record their answers, there are two different recording sheets to choose from. (page 15-16)
Page 17-20 Animal Cards and Clue Cards I use this in a pocket chart. For each clue, we read the first sentence, choose all the animal cards that fit that description, then eliminate as we continue reading.
Page 21-28 Ten Frame and Base Ten Cards—Another way to play “Who Snatched the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?” is to give each student one of the number cards and use those instead of their names.
Page 29 Students can use the animal cards to practice reading the rhyme. (page 17-18) They have fun with this!
Page 30 Have students draw a picture of themselves with their favorite cookie!
Page 31 This is a great “getting to know you” activity for the first few days of school. Students can write and decorate their names on these cards, then hold them up while you play the game “Who snatched the cookies from the cookie jar?”. See page 29 for the rhyme.
