This pack is centred around developing the skills of literal retrieval and inferring. It latches the skills onto the key question types of 'Open' and 'Closed' and explains how these differ and how to go about answering them.
Children are asked to solve a mystery by using both skills to interpret the evidence. This is a great way to both introduce the key concepts and practise the skills in a fun and engaging way. The pack could be used as part of a Guided Reading session, whole class activity or Literacy centre.
