For the art teacher, classroom teacher or homeschooling parent of 1st through 4th grades, this beautiful focus unit introduces the works of Impressionist master Claude Monet. Discussion ideas are provided to explore his unique approach to painting the effects of sunlight on natural forms, sky, water and garden.
After looking closely at enclosed prints of Monet’s paintings, a step-by-step approach is included for the teacher to model his technique. Then, the students are guided in creating their own Impressionist paintings. Two beautiful environments are explored—the garden and the water lily pond.
Also included are directions for creating a shadow box of the lily pond. Students may supplement their understanding of the water lily by growing their own by following the enclosed instructions.
The beginning pages are devoted to brief discussions that include:
1. Who was Claude Monet?
2. Claude’s Flower Garden
3. Claude’s Garden Paintings
