An elementary game from my aunt's previous classrooms to help students learn the basics of a good book - answering who, what, when, and where.
Game is for 2-4 players. Once you have printed, laminated, and cut the cards, students can quickly use this game at any point.
Game is vaguely similar to Go Fish. Players start with 5 cards in their hand. On a player's turn, they try to find a book (who, what, when, where combination of any kind) in their hand to lay down. They draw a card if they cannot make a book - or 4 new cards if they can and do lay down their "book." Continue taking turns around the circle until the deck is gone.
Extension: Have students write stories with one of their "books"
Differentiate: Use different colored paper for who, what, when, and where cards.
