Who is Responsible for the Holocaust? and Nuremberg Trial Lesson

"Thought-provoking activity and good discussion and wrap-up to Holocaust unit"

2 full days of teaching for one price!

Here is what is included in this download:

1. Background: There is a brief background reading regarding the Nuremberg trials and the plan the Allies were trying to execute.

2. Who is responsible activity: Students will get to look at who is most and least responsible for what happened during the Holocaust.

12 questions in regards to who is responsible for the Holocaust. It is a great way to introduce the Nuremberg trials as then students want to know who is ultimately responsible for the war.

The students will get to decide for themselves who is responsible and then we will read the answers to them out-loud. I then show them 24 minutes of the Nuremberg trials.

During the liberation of Europe, the Allied forces uncovered the infamous concentration and “death camps” of the Nazis. The burning question for mankind was, how could it have happened, and who was responsible?

3. Answer Key: This is to go over with the students at the end of the work period.

4. PPT: This brief PPT walks the students through some of the key events and has a couple of good videos to wrap things up for the lesson. I go through 3-4 slides first and then finish the period with the last 3-4 slides.

Nuremberg Trials WWII

I use this to wrap up the war in Europe and it is extremely effective in showing and discussing what was done and what should be done after the Holocaust.

STEP 1: The lesson begins with 3 discussion questions and then goes into a short reading about the trials. There is a PPT that goes with the material as well to give the teacher lots of editable options.

STEP 2: Begin the Who is Responsible activity and have students write down why they believe the person is responsible. Following their selection I have them work with one other person to revise anything that is questionable.

STEP 3: After the reading I show a short 25 minute clip of the actual trials. I have included a shorter clip that is 3-4 minutes in length and is located on the last slide of the PPT.

STEP 4: LINK TO NUREMBERG TRIALS

This is a fun and interactive way to wrap up the war!
