These Whole Brain Teaching Rules were very effective in my class last year and I can not wait to use them again! This set of rules does not include the traditional rules. These rules have been adapted with granted permission from The Kinder Polka Dot. I love them!!
Rule # 1: Listen when your teacher is talking.
Rule # 2: Raise your hand to speak or stand.
Rule # 3: Follow directions quickly.
Rule # 4: Keep your hands and your feet to yourself.
Rule # 5: Be safe, be kind, be respectful, and be honest.
Rule # 6: Keep your dear teacher happy.
*Includes "Keep your dear teachers happy." (for co-teachers).
Rules 1 and 6 each include clip art versions with a female teacher, male teacher, 2 females teachers, and 1 male and 1 female teacher. Choose the rule that has the best fitting clip art for your classroom!
Each rule is reviewed every single morning. I say one rule at a time and then the class repeats after me. There is a hand/foot/body signal for each rule that we do as we say them. Feel free to make up your own but here is what has worked for me:
Rule 1: Point to ears and point to mouth (back and forth).
Rule 2: Raise your right hand, put right hand by mouth and make the talking signal, and then take that hand and using your index and middle finger make the walking signal.
Rule 3: Clap hands to each word (2 times).
Rule 4: Hold hands up and wiggle, then stomp feet on ground, then hug yourself.
Rule 5: Hug yourself (be safe), hand over heart (be kind), be respectful (spread arms in a circle (like the earth)), be honest (right hand up - serious face).
Rule 6: Smile and point your index fingers to your smile.
