I have used a paper version of this thermometer concept for several years to help control classroom behavior. By using the 'team approach' using a thermometer to keep track of points earned, the teacher can reward and give consequences to the class based on their behavior as a whole. All teachers need an individual and a whole class behavior program in order to maintain a positive teaching environment. This thermometer is now a digital place where a teacher can have several saved to his/her desktop. It's easy to change the temperature by simply copying and pasting the small red rectangle as needed. Display the thermometer periodically onto your big screen to remind your students to work together as a team to earn pre-determined rewards. The rules and rewards can be modified for each group of students. I hope this will help teachers with some of the behavior issues they have to deal with daily. Any grade level can use this and the students even learn some basic Celsius temperature too!
