Since we know reading is really good for our students, I want absent students to make up the reading they’ve missed when we’re reading a novel together as a class. This is the easiest way I’ve found to hold students accountable when we’re reading a Whole Class Novel, and keeping track of the absent students who need to make up their reading.
After we read as a class, students fill in their log with the date, pages read and a quick summary. As students are summarizing (in English or Spanish- you decide!), the teacher stamps each summary, verifying that the student was present and participating.
Absent students will need to come in after class to make up the reading in order to earn the stamp and recover the points.
This download includes instructions and a reading log, written in Spanish.
