Place value and whole numbers is an important part of math but teaching it can sometimes be overwhelming when the needs and skills of each student are so different! Math menus have really helped me bridge the gap and reach every learner. Students can set personalized, achievable goals (or teachers can help set these goals) so that every student feels successful in class.
Math menus are about goal setting and choice. For this menu, students are given a goal (a price that they must 'spend' at a restaurant) and they complete questions/projects to reach their goal. They choose from a list of pre-selected math questions so they feel in charge and you can feel confident that you are meeting your math outcomes.
1. Tips, tricks and instructions page to get you started if you are new to math menus.
2. 3 levels of goals ($10, $24 and $44) for different learners in your room, as well as blank goal sheet for teachers if they wish to pick the goal.
3. Blank menu template for students to create their own menu as part of an extension activity
Use this as a whole class project, partner work or as a center in your math block. This product is adaptable, engaging and guaranteed to increase the critical thinking of the math learners you teach.
