I purchased the book Whole-y Cow! Fractions are Fun by Taryn Sounders with the intent that it would be a good book for my students to read during independent reading time. After reading the book, I have discovered that this book would make for an amazing read aloud.
Then I wanted to create a worksheet that my students can work on during the story. The worksheet is designed to have stopping points after each page read to the class. I have also included simple graphics in most of the boxes that you can use to keep students on task.
The worksheet led to creating an interactive page that you can use introduce fraction vocabulary words. The interactive page can just be a simple color, cut and glue into student’s math notebooks, or you can have students glue down as flaps. That way you can use under the flaps to write examples or jot notes for each vocabulary words.
Some teachers need more detailed lesson plans than others, and some teachers might want to plan this activity for a substitute. I have provided you with a detailed outline of topics covered, and a timeline on how long each activity should take. A set of extension questions are also scripted for you that can make the worksheet a more rigor level.
I hope you find this product helpful and that students will enjoy this worksheet as much as my class!
