Product Description
This resource starts as a lesson for whole group improvisation. Using the song " Who's That..." with some slight lyrics changes. Students learn the rhythm and melody of the song. They can then use the song as a basis for improvisation on un-pitched percussion, Orff instruments or recorders. After the beginning lesson students can then work in small groups in stations or centers. This works best on Orff instruments or recorders. The small groups in centers make for a great assessment chance for the teacher.

This product includes:
~ Lesson slides for teaching the whole group song & lesson
~ 4 different stations/centers for students playing the Orff instruments or recorder. Stations are at various ability levels. Students can improvise notes, create patterns, and create melodies. All centers use the notes B, A and G.

Center 1: Set of 24 flash cards, both color and black and white. Each flash card has a 4 beat melody and a given note. Students can read the cards individually and then put them into phrases.

Center 2: Set of 24 flash cards, both color and black and white. Each flash card has a 4 beat melody and two given notes. Students start improvising their own melodies with the choice between the notes. Students can read the cards individually and then put them into phrases.

Center 3: Set of 24 flash cards, both color and black and white. Each flash card has a 4 beat melody written on the staff. Students can read the cards individually and then put them into phrases.

Center 4: Set of 24 flash cards, both color and black and white. Each flash card has a 4 beat melody. Students can choose any of the given notes to improvise with. Students start improvising their own melodies with the choice between the notes. Students can read the cards individually and then put them into phrases.

These centers can be done in any order. Each center has it's own direction card so students can understand how to complete the center.

All slides are in powerpoint and PDF form.
