Description

Why Do You Need This Resource?

Make biographical research projects fun for your students with print and go templates that can be completed in a single class period. Students complete high-interest pre-writing maps which help them prepare an individual or collaborative presentation. Students must apply the information they gathered to the research task card where they will demonstrate an understanding of Whoopi Goldberg’s early life and how it enabled her to accomplish great things. Students will also be required to record a discussion-worthy quote, and cite sources.

What Does This Resource Include?

Illustrated Cover Sheet/Display Card – This contains a full-page caricature of Whoopi Goldberg which can be used as a bulletin board display card or as a project cover sheet.

Character Map Graphic Organizer – I love this graphic organizer because it helps students determine the importance of the information they gather by separating interesting facts from important ones.

Mini-Research Task Card – This page contains sentence stems which students will use to synthesize the information they gathered, to find a discussion-worthy quote and to cite sources.

Suggestions for Use – Several lesson ideas are included (e.g. Back to School Night Project Displays (photos included), Substitute Plans, Collaborative Speeches (my favorite), Independent Study Assignment, Guest Teacher Spotlight).

I hope you and your students enjoy this activity.
