With this partner activity, students will roll a die to strategically build the "greater" number. When each partner has had a turn buildiing their number, they compare their numbers to see which one is the greater number. The student with the greater number gets to check the box next to their number. The partner with the most boxes checked at the end of the game wins!
There are 3 differentiated game boards for this activity.
Game Board 1-working with numbers in the ones place
Game Board 2-working with numbers in the tens and ones place
Game Board 3-working with numbers in the hundreds, tens, and ones place
The "big idea" for this game is for the students to "strategize" when building their numbers. Which number can go first to make it greater? It may take some modeling at first for the students to grasp that concept. Once they have played the game several times and have gotten the idea, you can always switch the rule for the game and have them build the "lesser" number instead.
