This resource is comprised of eight activities / webquests, each focused on one very influential person from the 1920s: George Gershwin, Georgia O’Keefe, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Ernest Hemingway, Babe Ruth, Charles Lindbergh, and Zora Neale Hurston.
This activity set is interest-based. The biographies chosen for this activity set are deliberately spread across multiple areas of interest: music, art, literature, poetry, sports, transportation / aviation, and folklore / anthropology. If possible, allow your students to pick the biography that best aligns with their interests. In this way, you are increasing the relevance of the activity and appealing to multiple intelligences.
Each of the activities / webquests asks students to read biographical informational text, then analyze primary sources (video clips, photographs, poems, non-fiction and fiction excerpts). Questions are included that encourage cross-disciplinary thinking and personalize the content for students.
