Who's in Our Room?
An Open House Activity
This is a back to school activity for Open House. At Open House the parents read the riddles to determine which page is their child’s. When they think they have found their child, they lift the school house to see if their child’s self-portrait and name are underneath.
The children will fill in the riddles. Younger children will need some help. They will draw a self-portrait and write their name. (I am _____.) They will cut on the green line around the school house and staple it over their self-portrait. (I do this.) Only staple at the top so the school can be lifted to reveal the self-portrait. I have also included a school flap in black line if you would rather your children color the school themselves. I tape these on the wall in the hall so there is plenty of room for the parents to read the riddles. After Open House I bound them into a book. A cover page and an ending page is provided. Copy the pages on cardstock and the school on copy paper so it lifts easier. I like to laminate each page when the children are finished. Laminate the school separate so you can staple it on. At the end of the year, I take the book apart and send each child’s page home. If you don’t want to make a book, send each child’s page home as a keepsake.
Both the parents and the children love this activity!
