In this fun, interactive activity based on the hit TV show, intermediate and advanced Spanish students act out improv comedy sketches for the class using Spanish in a fun, authentic, and spontaneous manner. Sketches include Scenes from a Hat, Props, Newsflash, Party Quirks, Silent Movie, and Scenes Cut from a Movie. Directions are included for each sketch, as well as materials for Scenes from a Hat, Party Quirks, and Scenes Cut from a Movie in an editable Word Doc. Three old silent movies to use while playing Newsflash and Silent Movie are also included.
This game is perfect for upper level Spanish students, and I often use it the day before vacations or breaks or at the end of the year. I start by introducing students to the rules for each sketch and show them a few short clips from the show in English. We then switch to all Spanish, and as a class choose which sketches we would like to do in what order. I ask that students volunteer at least once as a participation grade and that they contribute their own ideas on post-it notes as well. Students are engaged and it comfortably takes up 50-60 minutes to play through all of the sketches. It may be helpful to familiarize yourself with each sketch on the show before playing so that you may direct students accordingly.
