In this lesson, students will examine why Communist regimes create laws that take away freedoms. This lesson is intended for use in studying the Cold War but can obviously be used in other classes as well. This lesson offers two activities. In the first activity, students will become communist government officials and create laws to curb activity undermining the Communist Party. In the second activity students will analyze actual laws from the Soviet Union and use the Constitution to judge their validity.
