Product Description

Use technology to create learning experiences that build critical thinking skills and produce artifacts to demonstrate mastery!

In this lesson, students will learn about the scope of chemistry as a discipline so they can:

  1. begin to talk like a scientist.
  2. understand the type of information I’ll be learning in their chemistry course.
  3. recognize how chemistry impacts society.

Both you and your students will know they are successful when they can:

  1. define terms on the Word Wall.
  2. match different types of chemistry to their uses.
  3. explain how chemistry is critical to medicine, agriculture, material development, and the environment.

All of the lessons and resources sold in this store include the following components:

  • a PreQuiz or "Before Class Activity" to activate and assess prior knowledge.
  • a "Word Wall" which showcases vocabulary that is central to the lesson content.
  • analytical reading or writing components to promote scientific literacy.
  • an independent or small group activity which allows (1) students to create artifacts as evidence of their learning and (2) teachers to review main ideas with the whole group.
  • detailed answer keys for the outlined activities.
  • formative assessment of mastery.

THIS PRODUCT LISTING DIFFERS FROM THE STUDENT GUIDE LISTING!

This listing is for a TEACHER GUIDE LINK. With this link, teachers do not need to purchase the student guide; they will be able to generate one themselves. Additionally, teachers will have the ability to modify the content of the web form, post the assignment to Google Classroom, view responses students submit electronically, and analyze data from the free exit tickets provided at the end of each coordinating PowerPoint lesson.

With the STUDENT GUIDE LINK, teachers are able to share the electronic web form with students. Students are then able to complete the assignment, download it to their computer or print it. Electronic submission will not be possible.

There are a variety of uses for this web form!

It offers incredible flexibility with regard to delivery of the lesson:

  • use the web forms as the foundation for an interactive science notebook.
  • use the entire web form on a day during which a substitute leads class.
  • use part of the web form as an introduction to the lesson.
  • assign part or all of the web form as homework.

Perhaps the greatest value in this web form is the portion devoted to student observation and data collection during the interactive class activity.

A coordinating PowerPoint for classroom delivery and interactive whiteboard use is also available:
