Product Description
This lesson is an introduction to life in medieval towns and the Black Death Plague.

The students use a description of a town in the Middle Ages and a primary and secondary source to explain why Medieval towns were so dirty and unhygienic. They also have to produce a piece of advice writing to a friend thinking of travelling to the town. They use a model answer on avoiding a bear attack to do this.

There is also an optional homework to write a postcard from the Medieval Town and to draw their own version on the front. All instructions are on the powerpoint presentation. I have uploaded a preview with pictures of all the slides and the worksheets to show you what is included.

Lesson contains:
A PowerPoint presentation.
Description of a Medieval Town handout sheet.
Postcard proformer sheets
Avoid a bear attack example text handout.
Avoid a bear attack example with answer highlighted in red.

This lesson was initially designed for the History National Curriculum in England. I have left the level descriptors in place but they are not necessary. I have left them in place as you may find that they fit with your lesson aims - if not you can just delete that slide! (See preview)

The lesson would work as part of a project on the Middle Ages and the Plague. If you are interested you might like to check out some of my other 'Middle Ages' history lessons:
