Product/Materials Preface:

This book study is a series of original and unique activities for Chris Van Allsburg’s supernatural book The Widow’s Broom. This thought provoking work of fantasy has brilliant images and a powerful theme. The widow Minna Shaw saves a witch who fell out of the sky. The witch abruptly leaves without her broom because she thinks it’s powerless. When the broom regains it power Minna is both startled and amazed and finds a new companion in the animate object. When her neighbors find out it brings problems for the widow. This story is the tale of how individuals easily turn on their own and fear what they do not understand. This is my fifth Chris Van Allsburg book study and will be part of my Author Study bundle.

This 60+ page book study and comes with: Multiple Choice and 2-point Rubric Assessment Questions, Comic Strips, Response Questions, a Common Core Response to Literature Letter Writing Template, Creating Writing Prompts, a Newspaper Article Template, Story Boards, Graphic Organizers, Vocabulary Cards and other unique Activities. These original items will work perfectly as a Part of a Unit of Study in Fiction and its Related Literary Themes. The activities will also make excellent Bulletin Board Ideas! The materials provided can definitely be used for up to a 2 Week ELA Unit and are interchangeable between grade levels. You can easily differentiate your lessons in a variety of ways.
