Wikipedia is a great resource for seeking everyday information. It is not, however, and appropriate resource for conducing academic research.
This PowerPoint presentation explains to students the problems with Wikipedia and why they should be using websites and databases created by experts rather than this online encyclopedia.
Included in the PowerPoint are several humorous examples of "Wikipedia Fails." These screenshots show times when someone modified a Wikipedia entry in a humorous way and the entry showed up that way online for a time. These entries are all appropriate for elementary and middle school students to view and while they will find them funny, they should also be impacted by the real issue of doing appropriate research.
