What was the United States like in the 1800s? The answer to that question depends on whether you are talking about the beginning or the end of the century. From 1800 to 1899, the United States underwent major changes!

“Wild, Wild West Careers, Volume 2 looks at Westward Expansion in America during the 1800s by examining the careers of those men and women who paved the way and settled the land in the west. Each of the lessons covers the careers and information about the era as it relates to the career. Volume 2 includes: Pioneers – their daily life, the dangers and hardships, and pioneer children; Cowboys – cows and the cattle drive, cowboy code, and the chuckwagon; Transcontinental Railroad Workers – the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads, dangers and life on the job, Promontory Summit; Cavalry and Native Americans (1864-1904) – the 7th, 9th, and 10th Cavalries, Sitting Bull, Geronimo, Chief Joseph, Battle of the Little Bighorn, and Massacre at Wounded Knee, and Native Americans’ use of buffalo; Outlaws and Lawmen – sheriffs and marshals, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Wild Bill Hickok, Bass Reeves, Wyatt Earp and the Gunfight at the OK Corral.

Wild West Careers: Pioneers
This product contains 8 one-page reading passages covering the Sod Houses and Log Cabins, Dangers and Hardships of Living on the Prairie, Insects, Disease, Weather, Chores, Schools, and more. The terms “homesteader” and “pioneer” are often used interchangeably. In the “Wild West” lesson plans “homesteader” refers to those settlers traveling west to claim a homestead; the term “pioneer” refers to those who have actually settled on the frontier. Outlaws and Lawmen

Cavalry and the Indian Wars
