Wilfred Owen’s poem, Insensibility, serves as a counterpoint to many of the prevailing sentiments of the time. The preceding era of Romanticism praised heightened feelings and emotions and celebrated the notion of a God given creation that was ordered and balanced. Owen saw no such balance in the trenches of World War One and his use of half-rhyme, assonance and consonance was his way of illustrating how unfeeling and disturbing a world at war really was.
