This activity builds upon student’s foundational knowledge of genetics and inheritance in order to create an fox “offspring”. The activity can be adapted in several ways to meet the needs of diverse learners in the classroom. Depending upon student ability/ grade level, students can match up homologous chromosomes to determine which traits are inherited.
For younger students, or those with lower cognitive abilities, the activity can be adapted to rolling dice or flipping a coin to determine the traits. The activity also includes pre-lab questions, student vocabulary list and definitions, as well as a teacher’s guide. It is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. So cute!
