Use active learning to assess your students’ reading! Get students out of their seats and engage them with this “A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare: Trashketball Review Game.”
Throughout this power point presentation, teams of students recall characters, plot events, and theme in order to compete to shoot baskets into a trash can. All that you will need is the ability to project a power point presentation, a ball, some dark tape, and a trash can. If desired, the questions in the rounds may be edited for the needs of your class. There are 25 questions in total.
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this game motivates them with their love of sports. When you put your students in heterogeneous groups for a game with friendly competition, it is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success.
Depending on the ability of your students, the game will take 60 minutes to play. The power point presentation includes a slide which explains the rules to students at the beginning of the game, a slide with teacher instructions, and a slide with the key.
