PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In 1955, the "proximity" of race relations was put to the test in a Sports Illustrated photo of baseball player Willie Mays, manager of the New York Giants, Leo Durocher and his wife Laraine Day. What was the problem? This activity highlights the tension of race relations in America during the latter parts of the Jim Crow era and provides an opportunity for students to examine reader responses from 1955 of the SI photo. Also, students have an opportunity to investigate contemporary examples of racism and discrimination in modern America.
