Subtracting can be so fun! My students love this subtraction center. They use manipulatives, a target, and their breath to practice subtracting!
To play, your students will place 10 of a manipulative in the center of a circle. They will blow as hard as they can to see how many they can blow out of the circle. Once they give their strongest breath, they count to see how many made it out of the circle. They then compete the subtraction sentence by seeing how many made it out of the circle and how many are left in the circle. They get to repeat this activity 6 more times. I have a sheet with these manipulatives pictured and labeled on it: cubes, crayons, marbles, bears, legos, buttons, and links. If you do not have these, I also have a blank sheet so you can make your own. This activity makes subtraction concrete for youngsters and they will have so much fun seeing how strong of a "wind' they can create!
