Description
Description: Students will play a game based on chance involving dice. They will then try to determine a strategy to win based on the probability of the dice rolls. Can the students find a better way to win?
Common Core Standards: 7.SP.6 (and others)
Materials: Dice (one pair needed if playing as a class)
Student Learning Goals:
(1) Students will be able to observe a long-running chance event and make predictions of relative frequency based on observations.
(2) Students will be able to use probability to calculate the odds of an event happening and apply it to predicting the odds when playing a game.
PDF Download includes Lesson Plan, Student Guide, & Student Journal Page (see images).

CCSS7.SP.C.6
Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability. For example, when rolling a number cube 600 times, predict that a 3 or 6 would be rolled roughly 200 times, but probably not exactly 200 times.
