Homer starts with the letter H and continues my ABC Arts Curriculum series.
This presentation engages 3rd grade students in the style of Winslow Homer with visuals of his work, age appropriate text for further understanding, vocabulary, examples of his technique and a student project description.
Students read text, gather facts, learn vocabulary, and make critical inferences about the artist and his work. The culminating project allows students to create wonderful, fun works of art inspired by Homer.
When the project is done, I display one example of student work under a large letter A for Giuseppe Arcimboldo's Name...followed by an alphabet line of other artists. B for Botero, C for Cezanne, D for Degas, E for Escher, etc.
My ABC Arts Curriculum is a proven success. As the students move through the artists, they build on their knowledge of techniques and arts vocabulary which supports future creative decision making, helps them make connections to real world, and gives them the confidence so needed to take chances and work through conflicts in their own work.
