This project is mathematically challenging and rigorous, yet students will love creating artistic landscapes that will look beautiful in your classroom. There are so many possibilities for themes such as winter wonderland, Christmas, spring, whimsical, or abstract just to name a few.
Your students use the problem sheet and find missing angles, then draw the triangles with the certain angle measurements using a protractor. They use the triangles they draw to trace on student-created paper for trees to use in a beautiful scene. This project teaches both math standards and versatile art techniqueswhile your students have fun!
Standard and Skills
4.MD.6 - Students will measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor and sketch angles of a specified measure.
The worksheet asks students to determine missing angles using their understanding of vocabulary they need to learn:
This activity teaches the 4th grade standard, 4.MD.6 with an additional challenge of applying the skill of sketching specified angles to incorporate them into triangles. The missing angle student activity page will help them learn the properties, classifications, and vocabulary of triangles.
An alternativeactivity is provided for students that need practice measuring angles with a protractor and would find drawing the triangles to be a little too challenging. Students in your classroom can work on either activity and enjoy the same final art project.
