Product Description

Learning about animals of the Polar Regions always sparks a strong interest in children of all ages, but especially those on the younger side.

This Non-Fiction Report Writing Activity for December or Anytime is fun, easy to follow and ignites motivation to learn and explore to find more information about Penguins, Reindeer and Polar Bears !

Usually around the time between Thanksgiving and Winter Break, many children are excited and look forward to celebrating some special holidays.

On the east coast, they are also interested in animals that have adapted to snow and live in Polar Regions. The animals that they seem to enjoy most are: Polar Bears, Penguins and of course Reindeers.

This mini unit includes fact cards, written in kid friendly language, about those 3 animals and encourages children to explore in further depth information about the included animals.

This resource is easy to differentiate and can be used easily with kindergarten and first grade with a few accommodations. Second grade will be able to use this more independently.

You may also find it easier to make anchor charts for some of the ready made charts included.

Children will be enthusiastic to find books in the library to research these animals as well as you the fact cards included!

Here is what is Included:

❄️12 Fact cards about Polar bears.

❄️18 Fact cards about Penguins.

❄️12 Fact cards about Reindeer.

Ideas for Use:

  • You can conduct the research as a whole class reading a book and presenting facts on a chart.
  • Have partners use the cards for the animal chosen and run off enough copies that you can supervise a group of students who may need more assistance.
  • You can also complete this one on one as an intervention with an aid while others complete it in a way that works for them.
  • This activity can be differentiated as needed. For Example, I am using this with Kindergarten and just having them display the Can,Have, Are frame with their animals

You can do this research as a whole class reading a book and presenting facts or partners for some and you pull a group of students  who may need assistance. It is easy to differentiate!
