Let’s face it - we ALL love winter break! As we say goodbye to our students, we send them off with fingers crossed that they will spend time at least SOME time reading and practicing their skills. But it can be hard to motivate students to hold themselves accountable for this work.
I’ve designed these winter break task cards to help students get excited about learning over vacation. These task cards are appropriate for students in grades 2 through 4. Most of these authentic tasks can be completed by students with little to no adult help and without any materials other than paper and pencil. Also, most of the tasks can be repeated over and over, so students can use their favorites many times over the break!
The tasks are a blend of reading, writing, and math. In designing the tasks, I studied the Common Core standards for grades 2-4 and created activities that were either directly tied to specific standards, or would help students access those standards.
-Introductory Poem (2 per page)
-30 Engaging Task Cards (6 per page)
-Color AND black and white versions for all task cards
SUGGESTIONS FOR USE:
Give students the task cards and let them color in the snow globes and cut out the cards themselves. This will give students the chance to study the activities ahead of time and get excited about the things they can do.
1) Punch a hole in each card and put them on a binder ring. (You may wish to print them on card stock and/or laminate them if you plan on putting them on a binder ring.)
2) Print the snow globes on regular paper. Glue each snow globe onto one page of a notebook. Take the notebook home over the break and use the page to complete each task. Glue the poem to the front of the notebook.
