It’s Preschool Time!- WINTER
, This preschool unit lets students be snowflakes, make a snowmen and sing lots of fun winter songs. The focus of this unit is to introduce them to the rhythms of quarter notes and 8th notes with using winter words to help them learn to clap one and two sounds.
Penguins: Learning to clap 16th Notes
: This second grade unit focuses on la, so, mi, re, do and teaches about 16th notes, using penguins as a theme.
One Dog Sleigh
: This third or fourth grade unit teaches students the difference between improvise and compose. Students are introduced to moveable “Do” through the song Let Us Chase the Squirrel. Students will be playing and composing on xylophones with C Pentatonic and F Pentatonic. This unit provides the students three days of singing, composing, moving and playing with the story One Dog Sleigh by Mary Casanova.
Winter Unit for Upper Elementary
: This unit uses the songs Winter Wonderland and Let it Snow to teach dotted eighth/sixteenth patterns. It uses an un-pitched percussion ostinato pattern and a winter poem with the rhythm. The winter poem is improvised in A pentatonic. Students improvise, speak and play instruments to practice the dotted eighth/sixteenth rhythm pattern.
