    Description

Celebrate winter with reading comprehension passages, language arts centers and creative writing prompts!

This activity includes a set of SIX different ELA activities tailored to common core anchor standards for reading and writing. I use these as literacy centers and morning work throughout the winter months. They were designed for upper elementary and middle school students.

    Includes:

★ Reading Comprehension Passages and Questions

    • 6 reading passages - four informational and one fiction.
    • 54 reading comprehension questions - set of questions for each passage. All of the questions are aligned to common core anchor standards for reading, emphasizing vocabulary, figurative language, inferences, theme, text structure and main idea.

    ★ Simile and Metaphor Sort

    • 15 task cards with holiday-themed similes and metaphors. Students sort the cards into piles.

    ★ Idiom Match

    • 10 idiom and definition cards. Students match each winter-themed idiom to its correlating definition.

    ★ Writing Prompts

    • 11 creative writing prompts for stories with winter themes.

    ★ Roll-a-Story Board

    • A seasonal Roll-a-Story board designed for older students. Designed to improve sensory details and word choice.

    ★ Sensory Detail Activity

    • A fill in the blank (madlib style) activity that shows students how word choice can alter a story.

    ★ Answer Keys

    • Easy to use answer keys for each activity
