This download will create everything you need to make 48 individual fun fact cards about Winter and a fun Snowboarding Game.
All text is nonfiction and covers many aspects of Winter including snow, snowflakes, skiing, and snowboarding. Use these cards to target auditory listening skills for details. Your students will listen for details of facts presented in single statements.
It can also be used to target these additional skills:
• carry over of articulation skills
• fluency of speech
• rate and volume of voice
• reading comprehension
A fun motivational activity to use with these cards is the Snowboarding Game, which is provided. Your students will keep tally the points they receive from their snowboarding performance. Each game card states how they completed a trick in a halfpipe competition. High score wins.
To use this activity the SLP/teacher will draw a fun fact card and read it aloud to the first player. Each card has a factual statement and a question. After the student answers he/she is
allowed to draw a game card. Play continues in this fashion going to the next player(s) until all the cards have been answered.
This activity can also be used as a reading comprehension task. Give the student a full sheet and let them read the facts and the question. They can highlight/underline/circle the specific information in the text that will answer the question or they can write the answer on the sheet.
