For Grades 4-8
This pack includes ten activities that challenge students to read, analyze, interpret, construct, and manipulate maps, charts, graphs, and data. Download the preview file for a complete table of contents and some samples.
Your students will learn and research about 15 countries that are participating in the Winter Olympics and are likely to be top medal earners. They’ll also graph and analyze data from the 2010 Olympics that will prepare them for this year’s Olympics.
When the Olympics begin on February 6th, your students will be ready to use their constructed lapbooks (or not – just paper is always an option, too) to gather, tally, analyze, and graph medal data that comes in daily. Your students will interact with the Olympics like never before!
Here are the activities included:
Task One: Analyze & Calculate Data
Task Two: Research & Chart Data
Task Three: Population Density
Task Four: Map Countries Around the World
Task Five: Create a Stacked Bar Graph
Task Six: (optional differentiation) Create a Bar Graph
Task Seven: Live 2014 Medals Tracking!
Task Eight: Map Russia’s Neighbors
Task Nine: Analyze Nonfiction Text Structure (Bonus Activity)

Just as with my other resources, these tasks include complete lesson plans with additional videos and websites/resources to engage your students!
