This activity includes 31 WH questions about Christmas or winter. It is set up so that each question can be cut out and made into a mini book for the child. If you are working with a group that can read you can put each cut out question in a pile and have the children go around in a circle, where each child picks a card, reads it, and then everyone answers. Once they are done if you want to send the questions home with the child you can staple them together with the cover page on top.
Then there are two picture scenes. One is about Christmas and winter and the other picture scene is more geared towards winter. There are 25 WH questions about each picture scene. These questions only need to be printed for the teacher to ask the students. The questions either require the student to know the difference between WH questions, understand linguistic concepts, or respond using a spatial concept. For certain questions you may want to tell the student to include certain words in their answer such as above, below, left, right, next to or between. For example the questions ‘where is the snow’ can include responses such as above the reindeer, below the clouds, or between the clouds and reindeer. Several questions such as this one can have multiple answers so if you are working with a group you can ask another student to provide a different answer.
With these activities you can work on having students produce complete sentences. If you are working on writing skills you can also have the students write the answer to each WH question.
If you are looking to save ink you can print one copy of the picture scenes and have the students share it or you can put it on the SmartBoard for everyone to see.
