Are your students resistant to learning grammar? Then engage them with this FREE Holiday Trashketball Game! This game helps students review sentence structures (simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex). All that you will need is the ability to project a power point presentation, a ball (soft texture), some dark tape, and a trash can. Although it’s optional, you may want to provide prizes for the winning team.
In this game, there are TWO rounds. In each round, students identify the sentence structure for each numbered sentence. The sentences provide information about the Winter Olympics, Paralympics, and X Games from last year. The sentences increase in difficulty and complexity as the game progresses. In the power point, there is a slide with rules for the students, a slide with instructions for the teacher, and a slide with a key.
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this game motivates them with their love of sports. When you put your students in heterogeneous groups for a game with friendly competition, it is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success. Depending on the ability of your students, the game usually takes 30 minutes to play.
With this game, you will be amazed that your students will want to learn grammar! Please provide fair feedback and ENJOY the gift!
