Happy Holidays! For several years now, my students and I have so enjoyed exploring the traditions that accompany the many cultural and religious celebrations that occur during the winter months. It’s not that I am trying to ‘avoid’ Christmas. Rather, my goal is to enrich my kids’ experience by introducing them to as many customs as possible. This provides many opportunities for comparing, contrasting, and making connections. I think it also brings the crucial element of diversity into the classroom, and does so in a way that is very fun. EVERYONE loves a celebration!
Included in this download are titles for some of the books that have been shared in my classroom to learn about Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Las Posadas, and Kwanzaa. And, to honor the special role that light plays in these celebrations, I've also included directions for how to make a festive (and easy) candle holder.
My best to you!
