This 44 page product is perfect for promoting common core writing in the classroom during the month of December.

It comes with 34 winter holiday themed writing prompts: 10 opinion prompts, 14 narrative prompts, and 10 informative/explanatory prompts.

While about half of the prompts involve Christmas or Santa, there are a variety of other topics included: gingerbread cookies, family traditions, snow, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, penguins, and more!

The writing prompts are provided in two different formats. One format is half page task cards. The other format is designed to fit the style of my best selling product: 101+ Writing Prompts

In addition to the 34 writing prompts, I've provided 4 different styled writing pages (with and without handwriting lines.) I've also provided a writing check list for each type of text that is aligned to common core.

As a bonus, I've also included a grading sheet for teachers to use to as they assess their student's writing. Once again, the grading criteria is aligned with common core standards.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.1 Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

[The check list and teacher grading sheet are directly aligned with the wording of 3rd grade standards, but can easily be adapted for 2nd or 4th grade.]
