Winter Holidays Around the World Social Emotional Learning Story & Activity

Looking to teach about Winter holidays around the world to early childhood and special education students? This is a social emotional learning or social skills story to teach about common holiday traditions that friends celebrate around Christmas time. 

This 24-slide story teaches briefly and simply about 9 holidays celebrated December-January: Diwali, Saint Lucia Day, Las Posadas, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, La Befana, Boxing Day, Chinese New Year, and no special dates!

I couldn’t add ALL the holidays around the world, of course, but I tried to add the ones I have had students celebrate in the United States, so I hope this will help other teachers!

This story does NOT include religious explanations. It is intended only for littles to understand that everyone may have different celebrations and traditions than themselves, and that’s great! It even says that some friends may not celebrate anything, and that’s OK, too! We can be friends and share the fun of the season with everyone!
