Product Description
Students will use data sheets included in this project, to research customs and traditions of holiday celebrations of a country of their choice. This Informational Text project is designed to use with the website

http://www.mes.rcs.k12.tn.us/teachers/largel/christmas.htm

and also the website at scholastic for winter holidays

http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/holidays/

A planning template is also included to scaffold students while creating a slide show presentation to share their information during their presentation of their countries customs and traditions during winter holidays. This has been a great way to also create awareness that Holidays are also cultural and native to the country in which they are celebrated. Many students are really amazed at how some countries celebrate so differently. They also begin to make connections with holidays and how some are also related to religion and not just a particular country.
Many opportunities are endless with this project and it is so easy to adapt to meet the needs of your students in your classroom. My students start presentations next week. Last year I saved my presentations until after the break because some countries do not celebrate until January. It really worked well not having to plan a lot of activities over the holidays. They did the work before going home and then came back and we did presentations in about 2 45 minute sessions in the afternoon, Please feel free to email me with questions and most of all how you used in your classroom with any new ideas you would like to share. I love hearing from teachers!
