Looking for a beginning research lesson for the winter holidays?
This unit explores Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah using the Scholastic website
This is a whole unit that focuses on the traditions of each holiday (such as defining the holiday, the types of food eaten, and important artifacts for the holiday). Students begin by viewing the graphics on the website and deciding which links will answer their research questions. They then listen/read the information on the website and write a sentence to answer each of the research questions. Finally, students must identify which source was used to answer their research questions.
These lessons can be modeled as a whole group activity or as individual assignments. They can also be used during multiple research sessions or students can be divided up into pairs or groups to look for the answers using the website.
