Winter: The Language of Winter
This ELA resource includes two reading passages about the origins of the English language and with an emphasis on words associated with winter.
Each text has a work page including vocabulary and comprehension question activities. The passages have a common topic but can be read at different times.
A list of 34 words associated with winter is also included to help students choose a word to research for the “word origin challenge” at the bottom of the work page that accompanies the second text. This page is not numbered and is at the very end of the file.
An answer key is included.
This resource is perfect to use during the holiday season if you do not feel comfortable or not able to use Christmas resources in your classroom. There is no reference to Christmas or other holidays.
