Kids love solving mysteries. After reading the first part of The Missing Red Mitten, students will predict the ending through the use of higher order thinking skills. Next, they visually create and share their predictions. The integration of this lesson provides a language arts - visual arts - literacy lesson plan with 2 options for differentiation.
Option #1 provides patterns for use by younger children, while Option #2 is a more creative individualized lesson.
In either approach, the children are reading a story and discussing it as a group. The challenge enters when the teacher stops the story before the children hear the ending. Now, they must solve the mystery "their way".
