Six winter-themed preschool learning activities featuring shape recognition, counting, pre-writing skills, and more!

Match the Animal Tracks: Sort cards so that animal track cards are on one tray together, with the animal photo cards on another. Invite children to examine the footprints on the track cards to match with the animal photo cards containing the same track and similar foot shape.

Mitten Color Match: Take each mitten card, identify its color, and place to the right of its match to make a pair (placing it on top of the black and white square with the mitten outline).

Penguin Alphabet Pairs Cards: Uppercase and lowercase card halves featuring adorable winter penguins for pairing letters together.

Snowman Counting Mats: To use with playdough: Notice the number on the card and count the black circles. Roll small balls of playdough to place on each circle. Can also roll the playdough into a “snake” and press into the outlined number. To use with small items: Recognize the number on the card and count the black circles. Place one small item on each circle. To use with circle stickers: Recognize the number on the card and count the black circles. Place a circle sticker on each black circle.

Snowman Left-to-Right Pre-Writing Cards: Place writing tool on the snowman and follow the dashed lines or curves to the right.

Snowman Shape Matching: Take the colored shapes and place them on top of the matching outlined shapes on each snowman. Another idea is to attach the shapes to the snowman using velcro. Use the loop side on one piece and the hook side on the other so that they will properly attach. Once all the pieces are attached, pull them off and start again!
