When winter days tend to drag on, toss some quirky research tasks about hiccups into your library lesson plans! Start by reading the book Little Penguin Gets the Hiccups (book not included) and let the fun begin!

During the lesson, students learn to use a variety of online resources such as:

- World Book Kids (a paid resource)

- Brain Pop (a paid resource)

- EPIC e-books (free for educators)

- Wonderopolis (a free resource)

- (a free resource)

- Sci Show Kids (a free YouTube series)

Just pick and choose the resouces which are available to your school and that work best for your teaching situation. My preview shows you the details for each of 5 tasks.

The task sheets are perfect for individual students, or small groups, to work on as library centers. Some are easy and others are more difficult, so you can challenge everyone. You can also opt to break the research up into pieces. Assign parts to small groups as a "jigsaw" research project. My detailed instructions will walk you through it! Many librarians have told me that they were able to adapt this resource to use on Seesaw last year as well!

While your students are researching scientific facts about why we hiccup -- they'll also be learning the names of body parts and getting some practice with fact and opinion, table of contents, author's purpose, story elements, and more!

Each task includes an assessment piece with an answer key, and I've included two exit tickets as well -- one measures a skill -- but the other is a fun opportunity for creative thinking!

If you get started in January, this set could keep your kids busy until the middle of February! Library skills, technology, AND lots of failproof hiccup cures! What else do you need? :)
