Winter Literacy and Math

This WINTER Literacy and Math Set will keep your students learning while the snow is falling. This resource is full of skill based printables with a penguin, polar bear and winter theme.

For this unit, all you will need are penguin, polar bear, brown bear non fiction books and a selection of winter stories. What a fun way to learn!

The Penguin section:

long vowels

r-controlled vowels

friendly letter guidance and practice

writing in role

reading for information: text boxes and information

1 step Math problems

The Polar Bear section:

practicing RE and UN

polar punctuation

Reading: compare & contrast (students research and then use a ben diagram to compare the facts they collected).

Math: measuring length (of a polar bear)

multi-step word problems.

The SNOW! section:

prefixes and suffixes

narrative writing

using a winter rubric (self assessment)

Reading: identifying problem and solution

Math: regrouping (addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers)
